.

the Brooklyn Police Department, Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, the Poweshiek County Attorney’s
Office, and the
Poweshiek
County
’s Domestic Violence
Alternatives/Sexual Assault Center. The
group became official when members representing these agencies signed a
statement of understanding outlining the responsibilities of each member
and their agency.
The
purpose or mission or this team is to further strengthen the network of
agencies and disciplines that respond to victims of domestic violence and
sexual assault and will
provide a measured response to these victims. This will include but
will not be limited to:

phase of their ordeal
-
liaison to victims as they encounter and navigate
the criminal justice system
-
a
local review board of cases pertaining
to domestic violence and sexual assault that will allow for services to
victims to be upgraded and improved.
Future
goals of the team include: improving the training of those who are likely
to encounter victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, using media
and technology to improve the system so that victims are able obtain
services and information, involving yet even more professions and
disciplines within this team, and increasing
the knowledge and support of Poweshiek County Area residents about the
dynamics of and response to domestic violence or sexual assault.
The
Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Team of Poweshiek County would like
to remind the community that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
