Camp 911

Camp 911 - Police Youth Camp

Next camp June 18 - 20, 2004

(Registration Form Below or Call 641-236-2650)

On June 4 through June 6th, 2004 the Grinnell Police Department in partnership with several area agencies affecting young people, are hosting a youth camp named Camp 911.  Camp 911 is a three-day event that will allow Police Officers and area youngster, 4-6 grades, to interact as part of a team.  This will include demonstrations, instruction, and examples of everyday law enforcement task in an attempt to help participants understand law enforcement’s role in the community.  Area professionals have been enlisted to assist with delivering the instruction.

The Camp 911 project will promote the Grinnell Police Department's mission to foster better communication between youth and police through education.  This will build trust, self-respect and create a core of well-informed youth who will possess greater insight into police practices and the problems associated with drug and alcohol abuse and other community issues.  Each attendee will be familiarized with police procedure and science through scenario education and examples.  There will be a mock crime scene, first aid demonstration, information on dealing with “bullies”, handling risky decisions, and displays regarding other police procedures.

.Adjoining communities may take part in this program.  All participants are expected to attend all three days.  This will be limited to first thirty registrants.  You may register below or call 641-236-2650.  There is no cost to attendees and lunch and snacks will be provided.  Participation is funded through the Jasper, Poweshiek and Tama Decategorization Program and Iowa Department of Human Services.  This camp will be held at the Grinnell Police Department.

Any questions or comments may be directed Officer Fred Foreman, Grinnell Police Department at 641-236-2650 or gpd213@grinnellpd.com.
